WordPress 2.5 is out, along with a new design for the admin UI and wordpress.org web site.
One little detail Textpattern folks might recognise: the Shortcode API, a new library for building simple [template] tags for post content, which is very similar to the txp template parser.
No prizes for guessing which Automattician snuck that one in.

The Opera browser team measured the percentage of people who use certain features. Several popular feature requests turned out to be unused, or almost so.
I didn’t realize WordPress was getting this until I read the announcement today. This is great news! It’s one of the things I miss most from my Textpattern days.

Don’t get too excited MT – it’s for shortcodes only, not theme templates. The only built-in shortcode in 2.5 is [gallery], for the new image gallery feature. I’ll be interested to see what others plugin developers come up with.
I’ve been slowly noodling with some code for txp-style theme templates in WordPress (that’s where I cribbed the code for the Shortcode API). I guess I know who to enlist to help pitch it if ever I get around to making it work :)
